HistoryFollowing the foundation of TMU in 1983, educational and research activities related to biological sciences were undertaken at the Faculty of Basic Sciences. The two Departments of Plant Biology and Genetics started their work with 3 full-time faculty members in 1988. A year later in 1989, the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics was established and five years later in 1994, a Biology unit consisting of four Departments of Plant Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry and Biophysics was founded. In 2007, the Department of Nanobiotechnology was added and two years later, the Biology unit was moved and integrated into the Faculty of Biological Sciences. ProspectThe Faculty of Biological Sciences strives to become a pioneer in basic and applied research and a top faculty in the production and dissemination of biological knowledge in the whole region. ObjectivesThe Faculty of Biological Sciences, as a graduate faculty, strives to create and disseminate knowledge in the field of basic sciences by relying on its committed faculty members, hard-working students and capable staff. Through the development of basic and applied research and the creation of a competitive scientific environment, the faculty aims to respond to the scientific and technological needs of the community and industry, and improve and advance it globally by maintaining its scientific excellence in the country.
