Abstract

Samples of H2O, HDO, and D2O were isolated in solid parahydrogen (pH2) matrices and irradiated by vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) radiation at 147 nm. Fourier-Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectra showed a clear depletion of D2O and an enrichment of both HDO and H2O by 147 nm irradiation. These irradiation-dependent changes are attributed to the production of OH and/or OD radicals through photodissociations of H2O, HDO, and D2O. The radicals subsequently react with the hydrogen matrix, leading to the observed enrichment of H2O. No trace of isolated OH or OD was detected in the FTIR spectra, indicating that the OH/OD radicals react with the surrounding matrix hydrogen molecules via quantum tunneling within our experimental timescale. The observed tempo

Wave packet shaping for a single photon source

Abstract

For the realization of a quantum network and efficient transfer of information between its nodes, many challenges should be resolved. One of these challenges is related to controlling photons, in that receiving and resending data in a real-time process should be reliable. The uncontrollable and time asymmetry shape of the photon wave packets emitted by quantum sources creates obstacles for reliable information transfer. In this work, an approach has been introduced to tune the wave packet shape of a single photon as a significant factor for absorbing and resending the same information. Since the wave packet of the photon emitted from spontaneous emission cannot be handled, in this research for the wave packet shaping, two lasers with a phas

Abstract

Suspensions of titanium nitride (TiN) nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared using nanosecond Ce:Nd:YAG pulsed laser ablation (λ = 1064 nm) of a TiN target immersed in various solvents such as Toluene (C6H5CH3), Acetonitrile (CH3CN), and N, N-dimethylformamide (C3H7NO). The synthesized NPs were characterized by applying a range of spectroscopic, structural, and compositional analysis techniques. The obtained TiN NPs in N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF-TiN NPs) solvent showed strong optical absorption in the near-infrared (NIR) range; Whereas, the obtained TiN NPs in toluene (T-TiN NPs) and acetonitrile (AN-TiN NPs) solvents were covered with a carbon matrix layer that quenched their surface plasmon resonance (SPR). The carbon matrix on the NPs was r

Journal PapersJOSA B , Volume 38 , Issue 5, 2021 May 1, {Pages 1586-1592 }

Abstract

VS_2 was prepared via the hydrothermal method and changing the reaction time and employing surfactant. The microstructural characterizations show the control of sheet dimensions and growth of crystal planes. The Z-scan study demonstrates the positive nonlinear n_2 due to the self-focusing effect and the two-photon absorption for nonlinear absorption. These results imply the effect of lateral dimensions of sheets in cauliflower-like structures on nonlinear optical responses. Also, the nonlinear optical susceptibility χ^(3) is as high as 10^−10 (esu). This study shows that the VS_2 flower-like structure and its similar nanostructures are promising materials for nonlinear optical applications and further considerations.

Abstract

This work highlights a facile green route for the one-step synthesis of iron oxide core–double-shell nanoparticles (NPs) and aluminum phosphide (AlP) nanosheets by pulsed laser ablation of the mineral turquoise target from Nishapur in the presence of an ethanol solvent. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy, selected-area electron diffraction pattern, and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) in combination with energy-dispersive X-ray mapping revealed the formation of NPs with a typical core@double-shell structure in which crystalline α-Fe2O3 (iron oxide) formed the core, while SiO2 (quartz) and (K, H3O)Fe3(SO4)2(OH6) (jarosite) participated as the inner and outer shell, respectively. However, the application of

Abstract

Functionalized Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (f-MWCNTs) which are modified using nitric acid and sulfuric acid were evaluated to synthesize a uniform nanocomposite via application of TiO2. The f-MWCNTs-TiO2 nanocomposites have been produced via using the chemical simple two-step method. To characterize the structural analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) imaging, ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy were utilized. The maximum shift of D, G, and 2G-bands of f-MWCNTs were related to 20 wt. % f-MWCNTs in TiO2 nanoparticles. Moreover, an up-shift of 40 cm-1 was recorded for the MWCNTs (G’-band) for 5 wt. % f-MWCNTs. For 20 wt. % f-MWCNTs/TiO2 (G-band) nanocomposites, was determined by 4.7%. By increasing th

Abstract

We have investigated the effect of Cu dopant and substrate temperature on the structural and optical properties of ZnS thin films deposited on glass substrate by spray pyrolysis technique. The glass substrate temperature varied from 300 to 450 C. Different characterization methods such as X-ray diffractometry, EDS, SEM, and Raman scattering analyses for studying the structural, morphological and optical properties of the prepared ZnS and ZnS: Cu samples were carried out. Improvement in crystallization, increase in crystallite size and also better growth orientation along the (111) direction are clearly evident due to the increase in the substrate temperature. Cu doping effects on the displacement of diffraction peaks towards larger angles a

Abstract

In this study, nanocomposites films of polycarbonate/TiO 2/ZnO nanoparticles with various weight percentages (5 and 10 wt%) were prepared. X-ray diffraction and FTIR spectroscopy were utilized to investigate the structure of the samples. The morphologies of nanocomposites were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Optical properties of the samples were studied by Raman and UV–Vis spectroscopy. The band gaps of nanocomposites were estimated using the Tauc method. The band gap of nanocomposite decreased when the weight percentage of nanoparticles increased. The band gaps of PC/TiO 2, PC/ZnO and PC/TiO 2/ZnO nanocomposites calculated by Density-functional theory (DFT) method are 3.28, 3.37 and 3.3 eV, respectively.

Abstract

Nanocomposite samples of CoSb3-xCu0.6Ni0.4 (x = 1, 3.5, 6, and 9 wt%) were fabricated through two different approaches to understand the influence of fabrication processes on the thermoelectric properties of CoSb3 skutterudite. CoSb3 matrix and Cu0.6Ni0.4 nanoalloy were synthesized separately via hydrothermal procedures. The mixtures of as-hydrothermally synthesized powders were prepared and annealed in the first method, while in the second fabrication route, CoSb3 powders were initially annealed, followed by mixing with Cu0.6Ni0.4 and annealing of the composite at the same conditions. The results showed improved electrical conductivity of CoSb3 compounds, which is consistent with the systematic increase of the carrier concentration u

Abstract

In this work, SnO2 and carbon black (CB) nanoparticles (NPs) were used to improve the physical and mechanical properties of polycarbonate films (PC) for industrial applications. Raman spectroscopy proved the successful inclusion of the fillers within the polymeric-based nanocomposites, with a suitable dispersion without changes in the structure and morphology of PC as denoted by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). After doping of the PC-based nanocomposites with CB, SnO2 and CB/SnO2 NPs, both the polymer hardness and the elastic modulus of the composites were observed to increase, with the highest value achieved for PC/CB-doped ones. Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DTG)

Abstract

We introduce a hybrid plasmonic-photonic cavity setup that can be used to induce and control long-distance heat transfer between molecular systems through optomechanical interactions. The structure consists of two separated plasmonic nanoantennas coupled to a dielectric cavity. The hybrid modes of this resonator can combine the large optomechanical coupling of the sub-wavelength plasmonic modes with the large quality factor and delocalized character of the cavity mode that extends over a large distance ( m). We show that this can lead to effective long-range heat transport between molecular vibrations that can be actively controlled through an external driving laser.

Abstract

We have found an incorrect formula to estimate the root mean square (rms) amplitude of the molecular vibration in the molecular optomechanics systems reported by J. Liu et?al. [Photon. Res.5, 450–456 (2017)PRHEIZ2327-912510.1364/PRJ.5.000450]. In contrast with common optomechanical systems, the equilibrium position for molecular optomechanics systems used in the letter cannot be achieved by the equipartition theorem. Here, we achieve the effective temperature of molecules and then provide a corrected formula for the estimation of the rms amplitude of molecular motion. Using defined effective temperature into our new formula, we show that the minimal measurable force is (F≈1.7?10^−14  N), which it is 1 order bigger than the result
