bulletVision

The basic function of the electric power industry is to produce and deliver power, safely and reliably. Moreover, its vertically integrated structure of the past has been replaced by multiple players, providing unbundled services using market-oriented decision making. A few challenges are being raised in this new environment, in terms of the strategies, the technologies, analytical capabilities, the tools and operating practices.
As a research oriented center, IPSERC is looking for meeting the Iran power industry requirements, in terms of both the research and development and consultation services. All types of operation and planning studies are considered. While the initial emphasis has been on nation needs, the territory and neighboring countries are also under consideration as new targets for such types of services. As a result, IPSERC aims at ranking the first on a nation basis and a top rank in the middle east.

bulletMission

IPSERC draws on expert capabilities to creatively address various power system studies, focusing on short-term and long-term planning problem, both in the regulated and the de-regulated environments, so that it provides:

  • Efficient access to experienced university research
  • Leading-edge research in cost-effective projects
  • High quality training of power engineering experts.

As an affiliated center to TMU, IPSERC makes the most benefits of the facilities available within this postgraduate university and does its best in providing the services required. While these services are of main concern, IPSERC tries to use the most advanced tools and algorithms to archieve at the aims. However, as the most dominant factor in fullfilling the tasks, IPSERC focuses on training and employing highly qualified young experts, mainly among MSc and PhD students.

bulletActivities

The center tries to keep high quality standards on all activities through:

  • Developing advanced software such as SEP (Substation Expansion Planner), NEP (Network Expansion Planner), GEP (Generation Expansion Planner) and RPP (Reactive Power Planner)
  • Joint activities with local and overseas bodies, companies and institutes
  • Publishing results in high repute journals and conferences, books, etc.
  • Continuous monitoring of electric power industry needs through meetings, seminars, contacts, etc.

Moreover, some strategic, purely scientific projects, were conducted as the governing practices for Iran power industry, namely:

  • Iranian market code
  • Iranian grid code
  • Operation standards for the Iranian grid
  • 20-year plan for demand side management of the Iranian grid
